Reviews

"Alterman  isn't  offering  a White-to-move-and-win tome, though I believe  that  the  book's  quality  will  give  its readers lots of free points... Alterman's  emphasis  is  pedagogical, and I believe he succeeds in this task.

Certainly  strong  players can use  this book  to  sharpen up  their repertoires  (though  Alterman  rightly suggests  that his book should be used as a beginning and not the end of that process),  but  for  the target  audience (young  players,  players  who  haven't gone  through  their  gambit  stage,  and maybe  anyone  to  at  least  1700-1800 or  so)  I  think  this  is  an  excellent purchase.

Highly recommended. 5 stars"

Dennis Monokroussos, Chess Today

"Gambits are wonderful, and not just for blitz or rapid chess. Offer some pawns, go for the enemy king's throat and have a good fight. Quality Chess has a new book on gambits from Boris Alterman, who we must forgive for being the mastermind behind Deep Junior... you would need to have a chess heart of stone not to try these gambits at your next club night... Another beautiful book from Quality Chess."

Bab Wilders, Nederlands Dagblad

"The Alterman Gambit Guide: White Gambits is definitely aimed at an amateur audience but some of the material will be of interest to stronger players.Young players, older ones stuck in the amateur ranks and coaches will all find The Alterman Gambit Guide: White Gambits to be quite helpful and at $25.95 for a 440 page, beautifully produced paperback very good value. Strongly Recommended."

IM John Donaldson
