The present model stands out from the others due to its innovative rook design. The artisans gave up the crenelation on top of it and replaced it by a solid homogeneous fortified tower with a little ball on top. All pieces are really particular, but let us mention the most distinctive ones which are in this case a knight and a king. The last one is definitely unique on account of his cross design which has a tiny hollow circle in the middle. On the other hand, the knight seems proud and solid with its serrated mane. All that makes the design of this set second to none.
This interesting model of Staunton chess pieces was surprisingly made in India not America. It is worth underlining the particular colour of pieces which they owe to a specific wood. The black pieces were made of padauk (Pterocarpus sandalinus) while their white equivalents are of boxwood. The chess pieces have been carved very precisely. The care about details strikes at first glance. The height of king amounts to 4 inches which equals to 10,1 cm.
HEIGHT OF KING: 4'' = 10,1cm
MATERIALS USED FOR CHESSMEN: Padauk/Boxwood
